The Age of Stupid presents us with a future vision where the worst-case scenario for the human race has come to pass. The film hammers home the urgency for a concerted global response to the threat of climate change. Taken from the perspective of the last survivor (Pete Poselthwaite), we see him reviewing the past via real and mocked-up news footage. As he looks at the images of catastrophic natural disasters and social disarray from his 'Ark'(ive), in 2055, he wonders why we didn't do more to avert global disaster. The film is poweful and thought-provoking. We urge everyone who cares about the planet to see it.

Garbage Warrior charts the trials and tribulations of maverick architect Michael Reynolds in his attempts to build revolutionary and energy independant housing using so-called 'waste materials' such as old tyres as his building blocks. In the process of creating these self-sufficient, eco-harmonious living areas, Reynolds and his colleagues have to fight City Hall and the blind bureaucrates as his ingenius and experimental structures defy what they consider to be 'normal' housing standards. The film gives a portrait of a truly extraordinary man, wholly commited to a more sustainable way of living despite the huge obstacles placed in his way.

Future by Design gives us an insight into the incredible work of designer and visionary Jacques Fresco on The Venus Project ; a bold new vision for humanity which entails nothing less than the complete redesign of our culture. Fresco has dedicated himself to the design of a new way of life for humankind, one which would transcend many of the traditions, values and methods of the past. His designs for cities under the sea, transport methods and housing may look like something straight from a sci-fi movie, but all are carefully considered in order to create a way of life where human beings, technology and nature can coexist in a long-term sustainable fashion with an immeasurably improved quality of life for all. We would urge everyone to see this film - to witness the amazing lifework of this tireless visionary and humanitarian. It is truly inspiring to see one man set out a meticulous blueprint for a future society where crime, poverty, hunger , homelessness and many more other problems are drastically reduced and quality of life comes before profit. We can only hope Frescos ideas do not remain in the realm of science-fiction but come about to produce a better tomorrow.

The Tao of Pooh winded its way to me via the Abbey Books second hand store at the top of Well Street in Paisley.Benjamin Hoff uses AA Milnes' stories and the original sketches of Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger and the others to illustrate timeless wisdom in a delightfully humorous and touchingly human way. Each of the characters represents an aspect within us and through their adventures we relearn what’s important.Pooh is the hero, he teaches us about the vital importance of the eternal present, community, caring, simplicity, joy and not forgetting jars of honey! The Tao of Pooh simply and successfully rebalances us. We’re taken on a surprising journey away from the destructive, dominant Western learned view of life, which without a counter-balance,is causing an all too rapid killing off of the free and wild on the planet and mirroring this in our own inner selves.I think if you read this book, like me, you may well fall in love with Pooh and friends and never be quite the same again…
